An amazing new technique using our most exquisite oils
17.07.2023
Recently I was inspired to create a new anointing technique which uses many of these same oils. In this bulletin, I want to do a deep dive into 7 of the 11 oils that I use in this technique, and their amazing qualities. I’m sure you will see why I’ve fallen in love with this particular set of 7 oils, which can be used singly or in combination.
Did you know that Gary Young (the founder of Young Living) used to live in Ecuador? He had been invited there in 2005 to teach advanced essential oil classes to medical students at the University of Azuay in Cuenca. This invitation had been extended by Dr. Rodas, the Dean of the Medical School.
Dr. Rodas was so impressed with Gary’s knowledge and pioneering work with essential oils, that the two men also joined forces to help people in remote communities gain access to medical treatments via a mobile medical unit.
Gary not only assisted Dr. Rodas during these procedures, but they were also investigating how the use of essential oils could reduce emotional stress in patients undergoing operations.
When we are highly emotional or scared going into an operation, our body is triggered into a fight/flight response which in turn over-activates the immune system. This has the result of slowing down the healing process.
They found that the calming effects of certain essential oils helped reduce the likelihood of a patient activating this fight/flight response. If the immune system is not hyper-activated by stress, the recovery time is naturally faster.
It was so exciting to watch Gary’s breakthroughs in this arena. Yet it was only one of many breakthroughs that he had when he lived in Ecuador. I visited Ecuador 5 times while he lived there, and each visit was unique and incredible. On several of those visits, I was privileged to learn “Neuroauricular Technique” from Gary.
This was a new technique he’d developed, which utilised oils that are very calming to the senses. These were oils like Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Melissa, Frankincense, Valerian, Palo Santo, Valor, Vetiver, Geranium, Roman Chamomile and Peppermint.
Palo Santo
Gary Young was already in love with Palo Santo oil when I first visited him in Ecuador. He’d met an Italian Psychologist (Mr Dante) who had been on a holiday in Ecuador when he’d witnessed an amazing thing.
An older woman who was always disliked by her community because of her sour attitude was given a cleansing from burning Palo Santo wood.
Something lifted off her, and her whole mannerism changed.
The sourness in her personality completely disappeared.
It impressed Mr Dante so much that he went back to Italy, packed up his life, and moved to Ecuador to study Palo Santo. He introduced Gary to Palo Santo oil…and the rest is history!
Palo Santo is revered for its power in cleansing us of negative energies (both external ones, and the ones created within our own psyche), and protecting our energy field.
When I want to create a strong sense of energetic protection, I place a drop of Palo Santo oil on C7, at the base of my neck. This is the “bulgy” vertebrae that sits where the back meets the neck.
But Palo Santo has another amazing benefit. When it’s placed on our base chakra (at the base of our spine), it forms a powerful cord from the base chakra into the earth. This can be very helpful when we’re going through emotional upheaval, to help us “rise above” the emotions so we can see with clarity. If you’re curious about this, check out my Raw Divinity blog on this topic.
Melissa
According to Gabriel Mojay in his book Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit,“Melissa can reach the deepest layers of the psyche, the “inner child” of our emotional being. It replaces intensity with serenity, and distrust with innocence.”
Where Palo Santo oil connects us to the divine Masculine and all its strength and protection, Melissa oil connects us to the Divine Feminine (the Universal Mother energy).
They are the perfect yin and yang.
Melissa oil provides us with a sense of safety, as if we’re being held in an infinitely loving womb. To read more about my love affair with Melissa oil, check out my Raw Divinity blog on this topic.
Vetiver
Vetiver oil helps us achieve a perfect trinity:
1. It carries us into a state of mental stillness, when it’s used in small quantities (ie. a single drop). It is therefore the perfect antidote to a busy, racing, overactive mind. Just place a drop on your third eye or temples.
2. It is grounding and anchoring. This is because the oil is distilled from the roots of the Vetiver grass, so it retains
the essence of its original form (roots are grounding and anchoring).
Try placing a drop on your big toes and your base chakra/sacrum area for extra grounding.
3. It is also a powerful oil for transformation. There was research done many years ago in Beaudesert on the outskirts of Brisbane. Vetiver grass was planted at a site where the water was contaminated and toxic. After this happened, the water became clean and pure again. This tells us that the Vetiver plant (and hence its oil) can turn something toxic into something pure. It is the perfect oil to transform toxic thinking into clarity and positivity.
According to Gabriel Mojay in his book Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit, “Vetiver oil imbues us with the calm, reassuring strength of Mother Earth, and her deep sense of belonging. Whether mentally exhausted from overwork, or out of touch with our body and its needs, Vetiver sedates and yet restores us – centres and reconnects us – closing the gap between Spirit and matter.
If you are a workaholic who’s filling everyone else’s cup but not your own, then Vetiver is an oil that will help you to just “be”.
CAUTION:Vetiver is a very sticky, resinous oil, so be careful not to have it touch light-coloured clothing or it may discolour the fabric. Because it is very thick in the bottle, you may need to carefully remove the stopper and allow a drop to come onto your finger. It’s definitely an oil for patience!

Rose
Of all of our different essential oils, Rose oil has one of the highest frequencies. This means it lifts us out of the mundane, and into a state of ecstasy. It specifically resonates with our heart chakra, so anytime you are sitting in the emotions of grief or loss or abandonment, it’s the absolute best oil to reach for.
If you don’t have Rose oil handy, use Joy oil blend instead.
And did you know that Rose oil can improve our learning while we sleep? One particular scientific study shows that the smell of roses during learning and sleep helps to improve both memory and learning skills by a whopping 30%! Click here to learn more.
And where to put it? Well, on our heart, of course! It’s amazing how quickly the aroma of Rose oil will soothe away our sadness, and help restore our sense of peace and Oneness.
Unlike many other companies that use solvents to extract their Rose oil, Young Living’s Rose oil is steam distilled from the Bulgarian Damask Rose, which are in turn grown without the use of any chemicals. It takes approximately 10,000 Damask Roses to make one x 5ml bottle of Rose oil. Click here to read more about the wonders of Rose oil.
Jasmine
Like Rose oil, Jasmine oil carries an exquisite sweetness that calls us out of our emotional armour, and inspires us to want to reconnect with Love and all its beauty. It re-awakens our passion for life, and our creativity (whose source is our own capacity to Love).
It’s also a fertility herb, having been used for thousands of years as a natural aphrodisiac, helping to awaken not only our sensuality and passion, but also our emotional sensitivity.
In Ancient Egypt, Jasmine was associated with the Goddess Isis, who held the secrets of fertility, magic and healing.
But sadly, there’s so much synthetic and adulterated Jasmine oil on the market that unsuspecting buyers rarely get to experience the true benefits of the pure oil.
Jasmine blossoms must be collected early morning when the fragrance is strongest. It takes 3.6 million fresh, unsquashed Jasmine blossoms (ie. about 1000 pounds) to make one pound (450g) of Jasmine oil….and this sells for between US$1200 and US$4500. Given that synthetic Jasmine oil sells for about US$3.50 per pound, you can see why there is so much incentive for unscrupulous suppliers to adulterate and “extend” their real Jasmine oil with synthetic additives, thus increasing their profit margin.
That’s why I only trust Young Living, because of the incredible lengths they go to in their Seed to Seal process to ensure their oils are pure and unadulterated, and beyond organic standards.
Sacred Sandalwood
Sacred Sandalwood oil is the true Indian Sandalwood, Santalum album. It has been used for thousands of years for meditation, prayer and spiritual practice. It’s revered as a sacred offering – a tool for carrying our prayers to the Divine, and for creating a gateway between Heaven and Earth.
Often referred to as the “Tree of Kings”, it is one of the most coveted oils in history….and one of Cleopatra’s favourite oils.
It’s no wonder it was prized like jade or gold and held in special treasuries!
Like Vetiver oil, it diminishes the voice of our over-active mind, and re-unites us with our Spirit. In fact, in ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic practices, Indian Sandalwood was used for everything from calming and relaxing the body, to elevating our consciousness to enlightenment.
Thus, it helps us to be both calm and alert at the same time, which is what makes it such a powerful oil for meditation.
But it also happens to be one of my favourite oils to rub under my nose at night, to help me fall into a luscious, deep slumber.
Even though Sacred Sandalwood carries us out of our physical confinements and into a state of pure Spirit, it achieves this by helping us release attachments to the many things that stress and therefore anchor us onto the physical plane. When we release these attachments, we are truly free.
Sacred Frankincense
I’ve had the incredible privilege of visiting Young Living’s Sacred Frankincense distillery in Oman. Wow – what an experience that was! You can read all about that journey here.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Suhail, M.D. He is Young Living’s partner for the Arabian Frankincense Distillery, and has himself been responsible for a great deal of research into Sacred Frankincense oil.
Have you ever wondered what the difference is between Sacred Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) and our regular Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)?
Well, for one thing they come from two different (but related) species of plant. Dr. Suhail helped explained that in practical terms, Sacred Frankincense is 20% more potent than our regular Frankincense.
But what does the oil do? Well, a better question would be “What does the oil not do?”, because Frankincense (including Sacred Frankincense) is a Universal oil. When in doubt, reach for “Frank”.
If you look at the Frankincense tree, you will see a strong, solid tree growing to over 800 years of age. Did you know that the personality or nature of the plant gives us clues as to how its oil can be used? The Frankincense Tree tells us that its oil will give us the qualities of strength, stability and endurance. And with its very complex “head” formed by interwoven branches, it mirrors our own head. It’s no wonder that the oil helps to bring strength to our minds, allowing us to better understand life’s complexities.
On a spiritual level, Sacred Frankincense oil works like a powerful sword to cut attachments and cords, and to bring us “home” where we belong, anchoring us into the very centre of our Being. By doing this, by reconnecting us at that deepest of levels, it enables our Spirit to fly free of our body, to experience a sense of ultimate homecoming and connection with all things. In this way, it has many parallels to Sacred Sandalwood oil.
