Discover the Power of Raindrop Technique

25.09.2025

Have you ever received a Raindrop Technique? If not, you’re in for such a treat when you have the opportunity! It’s my favourite essential oil modality to receive.

I learned Raindrop Technique in the year 2000 directly from its creator, D. Gary Young (the founder of Young Living). This tool has been in my toolbox for 25+ years….and it’s used regularly!!!

I also have a DIY version that I use on myself when I don’t have someone to give me a full Raindrop Technique.

I do this simple DIY massage with Raindrop oils anytime I am experiencing back and neck tension, because these oils are soooooo relaxing to the muscles.

The order in which I apply the oils is: Valor, Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Cypress, Wintergreen, Marjoram, AromaSiez, then Peppermint. Sometimes I’ll also add some Frankincense or Copaiba oil in for good measure.

In my DIY version, I put 3 drops of the first Raindrop Technique oil into my palm and rub it over my upper back and neck (focussing mostly on the spine and the muscles that run alongside the spine). Then I put another 3 drops of that same oil into my palm and I rub it over my lower back to mid back. My aim is to cover as much of my spine as I can reach. Then I repeat that step with each of the Raindrop oils. I smell very aromatic once I’m finished with all 9 oils on my back.

Essential oils (because of their purity) can create both emotional and physical releases in the body, which is why it’s always good to start with less, and build up as you listen to your body. So if you’re not used to having regular Raindrop Techniques, start with 1 drop of each oil, and slowly build up over time. This allows your body to get used to the power of these oils.

If you experience any burning on your skin (which can sometimes happen due to the hotter oils like Oregano, Thyme and Basil), liberally apply a good quality carrier oil over the top, like Young Living’s V6 oil or coconut or olive oil. It will settle any heat down within a minute or two.

Whilst this DIY massage is in no way a replacement for a full, enriching Raindrop Technique (with all its other elements of targeted back massage, Tibetan Reflexology on the spine of the feet, and ancient Egyptian and Native American energy techniques), it still gets me out of trouble when I’m experiencing any tightness in my lower back and/or neck.

But let’s take a look now at what makes the full Raindrop Technique something “out of this world” to experience. Scroll down and enjoy these wonderful testimonials about the benefits of Raindrop Technique.

What does Raindrop Technique feel like?

Imagine the sensation of sinking into a deep and blissful state of rest, as someone performs ancient Tibetan reflexology on your feet.

As you slowly (even reluctantly) come back to your body and roll over, you experience the gentle splashes as therapeutic grade essential oils are applied up your spine and to your tired muscles.

These oils are then “feathered in” using a

spine-tingling technique inspired by the Native Americans, combined with massage. You can’t get more pampered than this!

Raindrop Technique is not just for adults. It can be used on children (in a modified form, eg. you may need to dilute the oils, and/or use fewer drops depending on their age). It can even bring amazing benefits to dogs, cats and other hoofed animals (horses, goats, etc.).

Now let’s look at some of the amazing experiences our Aromatica Raindrop Technique practitioners have been having with their clients….

Boosting the immune system

Ngarie Humphrey writes:

The massage that we use as part of Raindrop Technique is wonderful for supporting the immune system. I was working on a young woman who had glandular fever. She was in year 10 at school, and I gave her 3 Raindrop Techniques over a 10 day period. She never missed a day off school, nor did she miss any of her sporting commitments.

Artemis adds:

One of the amazing benefits of massage (like the massage we do in Raindrop Technique) is that it can increase the level of lymphocytes in the body. These are a type of white blood cell which are crucial for fighting infection and disease.

Balancing the spine

Artemis writes:

Almost 20 years ago, my brother-in-law came to me for a Raindrop Technique. He had bulged a disc in his back, and was in a lot of discomfort from it. Knowing how effective targeted massage can be for reducing muscle tension along the spine (a natural side-effect of a bulged disc), and how powerfully VitaFlex Technique works to bring balance to the physical spine, I was keen to see the results.

There wasn’t a noticeable improvement that day of the session, however by the next day he felt an enormous improvement.

Energy returned

Sharon Leigh writes:

For the past 3 years, I’ve been doing on average 2 to 3 Raindrop Techniques per week on clients, so I have so many incredible results to share. I worked on a 15 year old boy who had Epstein Barr Virus (glandular fever) and chronic fatigue. He had weekly Raindrop Techniques for 4 weeks. I used all the Raindrop Technique oils on him, as well as Believe and Immupower for emotional support.

He was also seeing a naturopath & taking lots of NingXia Red to give him those vitamins and minerals his body needed so badly.

At the end of 4 weeks, his energy had returned so well that he was able to play footy again, and was feeling a lot more positive about his health.

Easing lower back pain

Sharon Leigh writes:

One of my clients had two Raindrop Techniques a week apart to help boost her overall wellness and ease her lower back pain (which the massage and Vitaflex steps of Raindrop Technique do so well).

Because the massage and VitaFlex steps release so much tension along the spine, it’s natural that people grow in height after a Raindrop Technique. She grew 5mm after her first session!!!

When she came back for her next Raindrop Technique a week later, she had maintained her height, and then increased even more in height after her second Raindrop Technique.

Artemis adds:

In AU/NZ, we use Peppermint Wellness oil (pictured above) as part of our Raindrop Technique protocol. This essential oil is traditionally used in aromatherapy as an analgesic (ie. to relieve pain). It would have been part of the reason the technique worked so well on Sharon’s client’s back pain, in combination with the massage and VitaFlex steps.

Helping with jetlag and stress

Sharon Leigh writes:

Essential oils are amazing at how they work on the limbic region of our brain, helping us to access and transform emotions. I had a client who was experiencing jet lag after a long flight, and a lot of stress. I used the standard Raindrop Technique oils on her, but I also felt to add a drop of Release oil. She had such a huge emotional release at the end of the session, letting go of all that pent-up stress.

She felt so much better afterwards, and really needed that release…plus she has a huge respect for Release oil now!

Quick recovery from Shingles

Graciela Kulbys writes:

Being a qualified massage therapist, I know how amazing massage is for helping the immune system. Six weeks ago I came down with shingles, from the front of my chest to my scapula. It felt like a knife. I received 5 Raindrop Techniques over a 2 week period.

By the end of those 5 sessions I had no more pain, and all the spots had dried out.

Usually with shingles it takes 3 months to recover. I feel that I recovered quicker because of the targeted back massage I received as part of the Raindrop Technique sessions.

Massage helps recovery from flu

Sue Piper writes:

I had a client come in who was recovering from the flu. She was worried she wouldn’t get through the session without having a coughing fit.

Not only did she not cough even once during the Raindrop Technique, she told me the next day that she had hardly coughed at all since her session. What a huge improvement!

It’s amazing how effective the massage steps of Raindrop Technique are at supporting health in the body.

My back was absolutely tingling

Jan Bebbington writes:

I have regular Raindrop Techniques, especially through Winter. I was recently in Adelaide, and decided to have a Raindrop Technique with a practitioner there (Karen Davies). As she worked along my spine, my back was absolutely tingling. I knew she was working on a higher level. My tense muscles began releasing with muscle spasms.

Through her positive intention, her energy work and the massage component of Raindrop Technique, she reduced any tension I had in my body down to zero (whereas some of it was 8/10).

A restful night’s sleep

Fiona Nadason writes:

I had one client who came to me for remedial massage. She heard that I also do Raindrop Technique, and she liked the sound of it even though she didn’t know much about essential oils.

After the session she felt like she was floating out the door, on a high from all the aromas.

She had a restful night’s sleep that night, and felt on such a high the next day. That was the start of her oily journey, as she later became a Young Living member. Now she says “I can’t imagine my life without these beautiful oils!”

If you live in AU/NZ, you will find a list of Raindrop Technique practitioners on our Aromatica website. These practitioners have had in-depth training in the technique, and know how to modify the session and oils to suit each client’s health history.

If you live outside of these areas, please reply to this bulletin and we will do our best to put you in touch with practitioners in your country. Regular Raindrop Techniques are such a powerful way to take care of our health, alongside of drinking our Red Drink daily.

And we have Raindrop Technique practitioner courses coming up in Australia later this year (Perth 29/30 Nov) and early next year (East Coast). Check out the buttons below for more information.
