Activate Your Sacral Chakra with Essential Oils

Did you know that the word “Chakra” is a Sanskrit word, which means “disk” or “wheel”? It refers to the swirling discs of energy that run from the base of your spine to the crown of your head.

The human body contains seven primary chakras, and many minor ones.

Each of the primary chakras aligns with your spine, and corresponds to an important nerve centre. But it doesn’t just operate on a physical level – each chakra also influences your sense of self and wellbeing.

Because each chakra is a Kingdom in its own right, let’s take an exciting journey into the world of the Sacral chakra, and what you can do to activate it…

Your chakras are the energy centres of your body.
Your Sacral chakra is one of the most important,
and it’s one that you definitely want to keep in balance.

What is the Sacral Chakra?

The Sacral chakra is the second of the seven chakras. It’s located in the midline of your body, about three inches below your navel.

The Sacral chakra has a direct influence on your creativity, relationships, and sexuality. And because of its location, it also has a physical impact on the sacral area of your spine, and the organs in this area, including the reproductive organs and bladder. Naturally, you want this chakra to be in balance.

The Sacral Chakra & Creativity

Whether you’re baking a cake, planting a tree, decorating your office, brainstorming for your business, dreaming of a brighter future, or having a child, so much of what you do in life hinges on creation.

You are constantly creating, which is why this chakra is so important.

An imbalance in this chakra limits your ability to create. It leads to a sense of self-consciousness, and you start to doubt yourself and your own abilities. Because you no longer believe in yourself, you become wary of taking risks….and this can hold you back from so much of life’s adventures.

In understanding the Sacral chakra, you must understand what creativity truly is. Yes, your ability to draw, paint, or write falls under this umbrella. But creativity extends to almost everything that you do in life.

That’s why this chakra also affects your emotions, sexuality, and relationships. Without creativity, you will struggle to find balance in each of these areas.

Signs of an Imbalance in your Sacral Chakra

Activating and balancing your Sacral chakra can help you overcome these blocks to creativity that hold you back. However, you need to be able to recognise the signs of a Sacral chakra imbalance before you can take action. Let’s look at some of the common signs….

Sign #1: Losing yourself in fantasy

Do you often find yourself lost in daydreams and fantasies? Whilst daydreams are a powerful way to envision and create, it’s important to also ground these visions in action. When the Sacral chakra is out of whack, you’ll find yourself living in the fantasies much more than in reality.

You may find yourself fantasising about having an amazing relationship, but yet you’re scared to allow another person to get close to you.

When you’re fantasising about something rather than creating it, it’s a sign that your Sacral chakra needs some tweaking.

Sign #2: Addictive behaviour

On the other end of the scale, we have over-indulgence. This immersion in addictive behaviour suggests you are out of balance through having too much activation in your Sacral chakra.

You don’t feel fulfilled or balanced when doing something, which leads you to do more of it.

Ironically, this hampers your ability to create because you’re lost in an action, rather than in fantasy.

Sign #3: Co-dependency

Your Sacral chakra has a direct impact on your relationships, by affecting your ability to connect and surrender – both emotionally and sexually.

When your Sacral chakra is out of balance, you’ll often find yourself in co-dependent relationships, where you depend on the love and validation from another person in order to feel confident and whole.

This could be your boss at work, a parent or child, or (very often) your partner in love.

Because you are operating from a sense of need, this smothers your ability to love without attachment, and so you find yourself either attracting a partner who is also co-dependent, or pushing your partner away through your neediness.

Bringing the Sacral Chakra into Balance

Before you can fully receive the energy and blessings from your Sacral chakra, you must first bring it into balance. Then you can sever emotional ties with people who drain your energy and creativity. You can also confront your feelings of shame and unworthiness, which in turn allows you to anchor your biggest dreams and visions into reality.

Balancing your Sacral chakra allows you to relax and truly enjoy the pleasures that life has to offer.

You unleash your creativity and attract abundance in return – including abundance in finances, love, relationships, and business.

Sacral Chakra Activation Techniques

So, how do you bring balance to your Sacral chakra? There are several tools and techniques that can help, including:

Using Essential Oils

Anoint your Sacral chakra each day with a drop or two of Young Living’s Orange and/or Ylang Ylang essential oil, or with Harmony, Inner Child or Sensation oil blends.

Scroll down to find out about the many other essential oils that can help to balance this chakra.

Meditation

When you meditate, you cleanse and balance your chakras. With the Sacral chakra, the colour orange is of particular importance.

Orange is the colour of the Sacral chakra and it will influence how you meditate.

Envision an orange lotus blossom in the area of your Sacral chakra. Maintain that image in your head while engaging in deep breathing exercises for five minutes.

Using Crystals

Again, orange is the key here when you’re using crystals to activate your Sacral chakra.

Carry orange calcite, citrine, or carnelian. You can also carry moonstone because the Sacral chakra has an association with the moon.

Changing Your Diet

With orange being such an important colour for the Sacral chakra, it’s great if you can eat more orange foods, such as oranges, ruby grapefruit, paw paw, rockmelon and pumpkin.

It’s also important to drink plenty of water….

Immersing Yourself in Water

Water is the element of the Sacral chakra, so exposure to water will help you to activate your second chakra. Drinking plenty of water is a great first step.

Immersing yourself in water, particularly from natural sources, is also the key to activation.

Each of these techniques can help to bring balance to your Sacral chakra. However, there are two in particular that I’d like to hone in on…

Yoga for the Sacral Chakra

Yoga is one of the best ways to release blockages and create balance in your Sacral chakra. Given the Sacral chakra’s location below the navel, any Asanas (yoga poses) that focus on opening up the hips or pelvis will assist.

As with all types of exercise, listen to your own body, and if you do have past injuries, make sure you consult a qualified yoga instructor before commencing these Asanas.

The yoga poses that are fantastic for the Sacral chakra include:

Bound Angle Pose

You may also hear this referred to as Baddha Konasana.

Sit with your arms by your sides, spine straight, and with legs extended. Draw your knees into your body and then allow them to fall to the sides. This opens up your pelvis.

Use the first two fingers on each hand to clasp your big toes and gently drive your feet into each other.

Now, straighten your spine and gaze softly ahead for about five minutes.

Seated Pelvic Circles

Sit in a cross-legged pose with your hands on your knees.

Without pushing down with your hands, begin making circles with your torso.

After five rotations, reverse the direction of the circles.

Cobra Pose

Also known as Bhujangasana, this Asana requires you to lie on your stomach.

Keep your feet flat and your hands under your shoulders. Now, lift your head, abdomen, and chest while pushing your pelvis into the floor. Hold the position for 30 seconds, or as long as you can. Relax and then repeat.

A gentler version of the Cobra pose can be done with elbows on the floor and forearms straight ahead. That’s the version I personally prefer to do, due to a history of back problems.

It’s important to control your breathing during these poses. Deep and controlled breaths are the key to maintaining control.

You may also wish to use a mantra alongside these asanas. Chanting VAM while holding these poses allows you to open up your second chakra further.

Essential Oils for the Sacral Chakra

Essential oils are the perfect companion to any form of yoga or meditation. Anointing your crystals with these oils before you carry them around also enhances the crystals’ effects.

Young Living offers a wide range of essential oils and oil blends that you can use to activate your Sacral chakra.

Some of my favourite blends for this purpose include:

  • Harmony – created specifically to balance the chakras, this is your “one stop oil blend” for bringing all the chakras into balance.
  • Sensation – this beautiful oil blend inspires self-love and enhances pleasure – it’s like “love-making in a bottle”.
  • SclarEssence – a wonderful oil blend for the mature woman, to bring energy and vigour to the Sacral chakra.
  • Gathering – if you find yourself lost in fantasies, Gathering oil helps focus all those scattered energies so you can create the future you desire.
  • Inner Child – the emotional wounds from childhood often link to the Sacral chakra. Inner Child oil blend will help you to nurture the child within, so you can banish fear and live a life of spontaneity and joy.
  • Peace & Calming – this beautiful oil blend nurtures your creativity, providing a safe space for its expression.
  • Forgiveness – this oil blend partners beautifully with Inner Child, helping you forgive the past wounds that you may be carrying in this chakra, so that you can be free to create the life you choose, instead of repeating old patterns.

If you prefer single oils, you may wish to try:

  • Ylang Ylang – helps reunite your emotional and sensual sides. This is the yin-yang of essential oils.
  • Clary Sage – enlivens the senses and dispels illusion, allowing you to have a clear vision of reality, and the strength to bring your dreams to life.
  • Rose – an oil that has one of the highest frequencies of any oil, and which opens your heart to love and joy.
  • Rosemary – an oil for rebuilding self-confidence and trust, strengthening the love force that exists within you.
  • Patchouli – a euphoric oil, one that carries with it an aphrodisiac quality, moving you out of your mental activity, and into your body and spirit.
  • Jasmine – reawakens passion, and reconnects passion with love.

Unleash Your Creative Energy

Your Sacral chakra strengthens your creativity, which improves all aspects of your life.

You’ll feel more fulfilled when engaging in activities and more confident in your relationships.

Better yet, you will no longer lose yourself in fantasies about the pleasures that you wish to engage in. Instead, with a fully-activated Sacral chakra, you’re able to turn those fantasies into the most fantastic reality!!!
