3 Summer Spritzers to tantalize everyone’s taste buds

4.11.2021

Have you had a chance to check out our Instagram page? I took over the management of this page a few months ago, and I’ll be completely honest – it’s been a steep learning curve for me. But one of the things I really love about Instagram is their new feature called “Reels”. I’ve had fun creating these short 30 to 60 second videos showing tips on how to use the Young Living products. I even show you how I make my favourite oil-infused food and drink recipes. It’s a wonderful complement to our Oil Temple bulletin, and I’m sure you’ll love following me there as well. Open up Instagram, and search for @theoiltemple, then click on “follow”…or click the button below.

In the last few weeks on Instagram, I’ve demonstrated a few of my all-time favourite drink recipes. I want to include them here as well. We’re not far away from the Summer months in the Southern Hemisphere, and with Christmas and holidays just around the corner, these recipes are simple and delicious – the perfect way to delight the taste buds of family and guests. Enjoy! And I hope to catch you on Instagram as well!

Recipe # 1 – Lemon Myrtle and Apple Juice Spritzer

OK, I have a confession to make. Out of all the many oil-infused drinks I’ve ever created, this is my all time favourite. I use it in my classes, and hardly anyone ever guesses the magic ingredient – Lemon Myrtle oil! When it’s blended with apple juice, it creates a magical taste sensation that isn’t easily identifiable….but which sure does create a “WOW”!

Let me show you how to make a single glass. Start by pouring half a glass of good quality apple juice. The quality of the apple juice makes all the difference, so I like using Greenwood’s Biodynamic Apple Juice, which is available from many health food stores in Australia.

Then add 1 drop of Lemon Myrtle oil*. Lemon Myrtle oil comes from the leaves of the Australian Lemon Myrtle tree, and has often been described as “more lemony than Lemon”. Emotionally, it’s uplifting and refreshing, brightening our mood and our Spirit.

Finish by filling the glass with sparkling mineral water, and enjoy!!! I never tell people what oil is in it – I love watching them try to guess what’s behind the extraordinary flavour!

Recipe #2 – Watermelon and Peppermint Spritzer

This spritzer is so refreshing on a hot summer’s day! Blend up some watermelon juice (enough to fill 2/3 of a glass). Add 1 drop of Peppermint oil*, and top the glass up with sparkling mineral water.

Peppermint oil has this beautiful quality of being cooling. In fact, if you put a drop of Peppermint oil on your wrists in summer, you’ll soon feel like the outside temperature just dropped by about 5 degrees! So adding it to your Spritzer will give a tingle to your taste buds, and cool your mouth and your body.

Peppermint oil is also very energizing, so this invigorating drink is also a great “pep-me-up” at any time of day.

Recipe #3 – The Red Zynger

Ooohhh – this is sooooo uplifting. If you think our Recipe #2 Spritzer is great for energy, this one is energy on steroids!

Young Living have a delicious energy drink called NingXia Zyng – it’s the healthy alternative to other energy drinks on the market, which typically contain artificial colours and flavours (and artificial sweeteners in the sugar-free ones).

NingXia Zyng uses the same pureed whole-fruit wolfberry (goji berry) found in our popular NingXia Red superjuice, mixed with pear and blackberry juice and sparkling water.

Containing 100% natural flavours and sweeteners (including Stevia leaf and organic evaporated cane juice), it contains 35mg of naturally occurring caffeine from white tea leaf extract, and only 35 calories per can. It also contains Vitamins B3, B5, B6, E and A. This makes it a sweet, guilt-free boost to your day.

As a spritzer, simply pour 1/2 to 3/4 of a can of NingXia Zyng into a tall glass. Add 60ml of NingXia Red superjuice, then add a drop of Orange* or Tangerine* oil to the mix.

It’s delicious with or without the added essential oils. However, citrus oils like Orange and Tangerine are cold-pressed from the rind of the fruit, so they taste exactly like the fruit….ie. utterly delicious! They are a great way to bring an orangey flavour to the spritzer for the whole family to love. But citrus oils are also incredibly uplifting to the moods. They are our happy oils!

IMPORTANT: *Each region of the world has its own regulations when it comes to using essential oils in food. In Australia and New Zealand, 39 of our oils are listed as “Culinary Oils”, and are compliant with Food Standards Australia & New Zealand for use as food and beverage flavourings. This includes Lemon Myrtle, Peppermint, Orange and Tangerine oils. If you live in the US, use your white-labelled Vitality oil, and if you live in the UK/EU, use your white-labelled Plus oil. Lemongrass Vitality and Lemongrass Plus oil can be used in place of Lemon Myrtle, as they have a very similar flavour.
