3 Unique Skincare Products that turn back the hands of time
24.09.2021
Last week, I shared with you how a healthy diet and the addition of liquid collagen (in the form of Young Living’s Bloom Collagen Complete) can make such a huge difference to your skin. It allows you to radiate from the inside out.
Yet that’s only half the secret to looking radiant and younger than your age. The other part is what you put onto your skin.
We’re all exposed to sun, wind, stress and all those things that promote dryness and ageing in our skin. So what are the best products to use topically to turn back the hands of time?
Well, in this week’s bulletin, you’re about to find out. And be sure to scroll down and check out the amazing before and after pics (thanks Sharon and Andrew!).
Visible Signs of Aging
Did you know that wrinkles aren’t the primary factor that makes you look older? Wow – I never knew that! 70% of the signs of ageing are actually due to age spots, skin dullness, skin discolouration and a rough texture to the skin. And have you ever wondered what causes age spots? Here’s a bit of Science for you…
The outer layer of your skin is the epidermis, and hidden deep within the epidermis are 2 types of cells. You have:
- Melanocytes. When UV light reaches the Melanocytes, they produce the dark pigment called melanin which helps to block UV rays.
- Keratinocytes, which are the structural cells making up most of the epidermis.
These two skin cells have a funny symbiotic relationship going on. Inside the Melanocytes are organelles called Melanosomes, which produce melanin (dark pigment). The Melanocytes eject their Melanosomes, which then travel across and attach to the Keratinocytes.
The Keratinocytes are constantly moving from the deeper layers of your skin’s epidermis to the surface layers, so they carry the melanosomes (and pigment) with them. Although this skin pigmentation protects from UV exposure, uneven distribution of the pigment on those surface keratinocytes is what creates age spots and uneven skin tone.
What if you had a system that could target these visible signs of aging, and cause your skin to look hydrated and radiant?
Sheerlumé….it’s where it all began
One of Young Living’s first skincare ranges (and still one of our very popular ranges today, especially for sensitive skin types) is A.R.T., which stands for Age Refining Technology. Sheerlumé Brightening Cream was developed as part of the A.R.T skincare line, to specifically work with:
• sun damaged skin
• age spots
• uneven complexion
• dullness
• wrinkles
We often call Sheerlumé the “youth elixir” because of how beautifully it brightens the skin and evens out marks and age spots, making your skin look younger and smoother.
Young Living decided to take their Sheerlumé cream to the next level, and use it as the basis for a whole new skincare line called Bloom.
After 2 years in development, Bloom is now available*. Bloom is a 3 part skincare system comprising: Cleanser, Essence and Lotion. You’ll see the best results if you use all 3 products in conjunction. And the results are outstanding! 81% of users see noticeable improvement in their skin’s brightness after just 60 days on this system.
*NOTE: If you live in Australia or New Zealand, this product is branded as “Bloom by Young Living“.
Bloom is a skin brightening system
Let’s check out its amazing ingredients, & what they do…
Essential Oils – Radiance & Brightness
At the core of the Bloom Cleanser, Essence and Lotion is Sheerlumé’s special combination of essential oils: Vetiver, Blue Cypress, Davana, Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood, Clove, Jasmine, Carrot Seed, Spearmint, Geranium and Frankincense. These oils help to brighten your complexion, balance skin tone, and create radiance and glow.
Micas – Shimmer & Glow
Micas are natural crystalline earth minerals, which are ethically mined and sourced from France and the USA. Being crystalline in nature, they naturally reflect light from our skin. This makes your skin look like it’s lit up from the inside out, creating the optical illusion of an instantly more radiant and glowing complexion. Over time, micas also strengthen your skin’s moisture barrier, contributing to better hydration and a more radiant, glowing skin.
Frangipani Flower Extract – Moisturize & Hydrate
This beautiful flower (also known as Plumeria or Lilium candidum) is well known from the South Pacific, where it has been used for generations to moisturise and hydrate both skin and hair. It leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth, and even acts as a UV filter to protect the skin, helping reduce tissue damage from oxidative stress.
Sodium Hyaluronate – Ultra Hydration & Reduces Pores
This amazing substance has a small molecular weight (meaning it can easily penetrate your skin), and it holds 1,000 times its weight in water. Once absorbed, it draws moisture into your skin for that natural hydration. It also reduces the appearance of pores and wrinkles, and helps strengthen and protect the outer layer of your skin.
Madonna Lily Extract – Reduces Age Spots & Evens Tone
Now this is extraordinary! Using a unique biotech process, a piece of the Madonna Lily leaf is taken and cultured to produce a “mother cell”, which in turn produces active cells from within the Lily plant. This eco-friendly and sustainable process preserves the host plant, since only 1 sample needs to be taken. It produces a completely pure ingredient that is free of all by-products, requiring less water than agriculture, with a low carbon footprint. As for what it does for your skin – it brightens skin and decreases the appearance of dark spots (thus fighting the signs of ageing), and contributes to a more uniform skin tone.
Green Algae Extract – Promotes Healthy Skin Microbiome
Green Algae (Chlorella vulgaris) is a wonderful skin nutrient! It revitalises and strengthens your skin, reducing the appearance of pores and decreasing excess oil production. But it has another very important attribute – it adds prebiotic benefits to your skin, providing a wonderful source of nutrition for your skin’s bacteria, which in turn promotes a healthy skin microbiome.
Pili Pili Pulp Oil – Moisturize & Skin Antioxidant
Ready for some added radiance? Pili Pili Pulp Oil is sustainably sourced from Young Living’s Happy Pili Tree Farm & Distillery in the Philippines. It’s packed with antioxidants to protect your skin from free radical damage. It nourishes your skin, and is a glow-making moisturiser.
Cupuaçu Butter – Deep Hydration & Improves Skin Elasticity
Have you ever heard of the word hydrophilic? It means “water loving”, and that’s exactly what Cupuaçu butter is. It binds to water, acting as a super moisturizer for your skin, helping to deepen hydration and retain moisture. This makes your skin supple, soft and more elastic. It’s also rich in phytosterols and antioxidants.
Apple Fruit Extract – Increases skin hydration by 88%
This is extract from pieces of apple (Pyrus malus), which are naturally high in antioxidants. Because the Apple Extract radically increases skin hydration and improves complexion, you’ll find your skin feeling softer and smoother, with fewer signs of wrinkles. It even reduces puffy eyes and dark circles!
Pracaxi Seed Oil – Promotes Cellular Renewal
Often referred to as a ‘miracle oil’, Pracaxi Seed Oil has a host of benefits in skin care. It’s traditionally used by Amazonian people to reduce stretch marks during pregnancy (ie. it helps improve the elasticity of your skin). It’s very high in Behenic and Lignoceric acid, which bring great moisturising properties to your skin. In fact, at 19% it’s the highest known concentration of Behenic acid! In addition to moisturising and hydrating your skin, Pacaxi Seed Oil promotes cellular renewal, helping to give your skin a healthy, youthful glow. It diminishes skin spots, pigmentation and blemishes.
Sodium Carageenen from Red Algae – Protects & Hydrates
This amazing polysaccharide found in Red Algae (Chondrus crispus) binds to water, helping to deeply hydrate and moisturise your skin. This in turn helps strengthen your skin’s natural protective layer. It’s also a natural thickener, helping to create a beautiful creamy texture to whatever skin care product it’s added to.
Ginger Root Extract – Balances Skin Tone & Brightens
Yes – who would have thought that ginger root (Alpinia officinaru) would have such amazing skin benefits. In fact it’s praised for its skin brightening properties, and its ability to even out skin tone. Better yet, it’s absolutely loaded with antioxidants!
Red Dulse Seaweed – Improves appearance of sun damage
Red Dulse Seeweed (Pamaria palmata) promotes brighter skin. It’s rich in antioxidants, which moisturise and condition your skin….plus it improves the appearance of some of the signs of photoaging (ie. sun damage).
Sea Water – Feeds your skin with minerals
Sea water helps to remineralise your skin with essential minerals like Manganese, Zinc, Iron and Lithium. It’s literally food for your skin!
Now let’s check out the amazing trio of products in the Bloom Skincare System, which complements your Bloom Collagen Complete which I discussed in our last bulletin.
Bloom Brightening Cleanser
When you think of a facial cleanser, what comes to mind? You are probably thinking it’s a great way to cleanse dirt and other grime from the face. But Bloom Brightening Cleanser goes many steps further than this. It has a whole host of additional powerful ingredients for added benefits, so this is indeed a master skincare formula.
This is an ultra-hydrating facial cleanser that cleans and conditions your skin, leaving it feeling fresh and smooth. It removes embedded impurities around and inside your skin pores, and helps your skin to look even and blemish-free.
Although it can be used to remove light makeup, if you are wearing heavy makeup (such as eye makeup, mascara, etc.), use some of Young Living’s Mirah Luminous Cleansing Oil or a Seedlings Baby Wipe first, followed by the Bloom Brightening Cleanser.
Unlike the A.R.T. Gentle Cleanser, this is not a foaming cleanser. Simply apply a small amount to your fingertips (about the size of 1.5 or 2 peas), add some lukewarm water, and gently massage it into your face, then rinse off. If you want to offer even more support to your skin, 2 to 3 times a week you can exfoliate with Young Living’s Satin Facial Scrub with its beautiful minty aroma.
Touch your skin afterwards – you’ll feel the difference!
Bloom Brightening Essence
Oh, you’re in for such a treat! Bloom Brightening Essence is a shimmery essence that hydrates your skin, giving it an iridescent glow. This water-based essence has a very light gel texture – slightly heavier than a toner, but not so heavy as a skin serum. If you’re going to tone, do it before you apply the Brightening Essence…but in many ways, the essence does the same thing as a toner, so it’s your choice whether you choose to use both.
Here’s what the Bloom Brightening Essence does, without stripping your skin of its natural skin barrier:
• Helps to balance and restore your skin’s pH, reducing the appearance of pores
• Helps maintain a healthy skin microbiome, thus supporting your skin barrier function
• Brightens and hydrates your skin
• Offers an instant, radiant glow (thanks to the crystalline mica!)
• Great for dull and uneven skin
If you look at the Bloom Brightening Essence, it literally sparkles in the light! That’s from the micas, and it’s why you want to give it a gentle shake before you use it, as the micas can tend to settle. Then pour a generous amount into your palm (about 2cm x 2cm), rub your palms together to disperse the essence between both palms, and gently press it into the skin of face, neck and décolletage. You can also put it onto the backs of your hands, so they benefit as well.
This will become your new best friend! And best of all, if you follow this up with some A.R.T. Renewal Serum (optional) and your Bloom Brightening Lotion, it will help those products to be even more effective. Use the A.R.T. Renewal Serum before you add any Lotion or moisturizer.
Bloom Brightening Lotion
This beautiful lightweight moisturiser delivers ultra-hydration and a bright, balanced glow to your skin.
It helps to:
• Even your skin tone, helping your skin maintain its moisture barrier
• Reduce the appearance of dark spots and blemishes
• Give your skin a smoother texture
• Hydrates and brightens your skin, giving it a radiant glow
• It even minimises the appearance of future skin damage
Add 1 to 2 pumps of lotion into your palms, and press it into your skin morning and night, avoiding the delicate skin under your eyes. If you prefer a more intensive moisturiser at night, you can switch it out for the A.R.T. Intensive Moisturizer or Sheerlumé Brightening Cream in the evenings.
You can even top your regime off with specialty products for the skin, like Young Living’s Wolfberry Eye Cream or Claraderm Spray, or a weekly A.R.T. Masque.
Clean and Green
The entire Bloom by Young Living range is perfect for all skin types. It’s hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic (meaning it doesn’t block your pores). It’s gluten free, vegetarian (not vegan), and cruelty free. Unlike most skincare products on the market, it’s also absolutely clean and green, containing:
• NO parabens
• NO phthalates
• NO propylene glycol
• NO sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate
• NO mineral oil
• NO PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid)
• NO Petrolatum
• NO Paraffin
• NO Diethanolamine (DEA)
.
Even the box has been printed with flowers on the inside, which you can cut out and recycle for your arts and crafts projects. What a wonderful inspiration!
