6 Oily Tips for a Magical Wedding
9.08.2024
It’s been a busy few months for us at The Oil Temple, including preparing for the classes I’m running in Perth.
I’ve been in the USA teaching at the Paws, Claws & Hooves 2024 Animal Conference. I was so inspired to listen to our most experienced vets and animal experts in the field of essential oils for animals (including my sister, Susan Marshall).
I then stayed on for Young Living’s 30 year anniversary convention in Salt Lake City. What an amazing event that was, uniting Young Living’s roots with its latest innovations, and incorporating a visit to two of the Young Living farms in Utah.
Yet the past couple of months has been made all the more special by Sophie’s wedding in the UK. If you haven’t had the joy of meeting Sophie, she helps to answer your questions and support you (with our bulletins, events and social media), with the assistance of Cley and Kathleen.
That made for interesting times in our office, with Sophie being away for 6 weeks, and Sue Piper kindly stepping in to assist in her absence. Sophie has written today’s bulletin, to share with you how she used the Young Living oils to make her wedding day (and the lead-up) even more special. Thanks Sophie!
6 Oily Tips for a Magical Wedding
On the 26th June 2024, Frazer and I tied the knot in my hometown of St. Agnes, Cornwall. It was an absolutely wonderful time, with family and friends having flown to the UK from across the world to celebrate with us. After so many months of planning, organising, sleepless nights and pre-wedding anxiety, I have to say that it was all worth it. It truly was the most unforgettable day of our lives!
But in case you somehow weren’t aware, your wedding day will make you FEEL things. Shocking, I know!! The emotions that came over me in those few weeks really took me by surprise, and at times left me feeling overwhelmed in so many ways I didn’t expect.
I want to share some of my experiences with you and talk about how, with a little help from our beautiful essential oils, I was able to adapt and embrace these unexpected moments, and soak up every second of our special day.
1. Feel Your Best with Thieves
I’d arrived in Cornwall three weeks before the wedding to relax and spend some time with family. After several days of travelling across the world and being on planes and in airports, I wanted to make sure I was feeling strong and protected for the big weeks ahead. So knowing its many magical benefits, I decided to add Thieves oil to my daily routine straight away… and a good job too!
I used Thieves oil every day….applying liberally to the bottoms of my feet, rubbing it on my chest with a warm compress, mixing with massage oil and applying to any aches from the long flight.
Thankfully “Operation Thieves” was a success, and combined with some yummy food (thanks Mum!) and long sleeps, I was in top form for my hen’s party and wedding day!
2. Sleep Soundly with Lavender and Surrender Oil
Talking of sleep, it turns out that everyone has advice for getting enough rest in the lead up to your big day. Thankfully, I have established a pretty good sleep routine of my own over the years and during those weeks I felt sooooo thankful for my Lavender oil, which I massaged onto my temples each night before bed to help me relax. Coupled with good sleep hygiene – that is, having regular nightly routines in place and a relaxing bedtime environment – Lavender oil for a good sleep is always a winner.
Falling asleep the night before your wedding, however, is a totally different story. Like most to-be-weds, I hoped I’d wake
feeling rested and restored on my wedding day but alas, the Universe had other plans for me, as it turned out the charming little pub I’d booked had an 80’s band playing that night!! Suffice to say by midnight I was teetering on the edge of a breakdown.
Desperate, I grabbed my emergency oils kit, slathered Surrender oil on my pillow, and prayed for a miracle… And it worked! I don’t remember much else until my alarm woke me and by the time it came to my hair and make-up, I felt fresh as a daisy.
3. Savour the Moment with Present Time
As the wedding drew closer and guests began to arrive, we threw a BBQ to help everyone get to know each other. Don’t get me wrong, it’s wonderful to be surrounded by people you love – BUT it can also feel incredibly overwhelming to see all those faces in the same room. Some people have travelled thousands of miles, or haven’t seen you for years, and they all want to tell you CONGRATULATIONS and catch up.
Pre-empting that it might be so, I applied a few drops of Present Time oil to my wrists and the edge of my ears beforehand. I also added a drop of Harmony oil, in the hope that the aroma would help create a peaceful energy among estranged family and divorced parents… after all, weddings are a boiling pot for emotions, and tensions can run high! But the evening played out perfectly.
You know that feeling you get when you observe something beautiful happening before your eyes, leaving an image in your mind that can’t ever be forgotten? When you can take a step back from talking, thanking, eating and just take a mental snapshot from a distance, watching people have a great time, knowing that they’re there to celebrate you and your partner? That’s how it felt.
4. Centre Yourself with Grounding
The days passed by in a flash, and on the morning of our wedding I got up, had breakfast and went for a walk by myself down to the beach. I’d been coming to this beach since I was a child, and it felt so special to take some time to reflect on all the moments in my life that had brought me back here.
I wanted to make sure that I soaked in the day as best as I could, without getting lost in the rush, so I applied some Grounding oil to my neckline, breathing it in deeply.
I stood on the beach for what seemed like an eternity – feeling my toes in the sand and the fresh air on my face.
I was amazed at how suddenly, I no longer cared about the little details I’d spent months pouring over, knowing that all there was left for me to do now was get married and enjoy myself!
5. Have Courage with Valor
I then walked up to a little secret spot on the cliff, where I sat for a while to meditate. This time, the oil I chose was Valor, for courage.
I applied it to the soles of my feet, and the base of my spine – sitting up tall with my sit bones grounded in the Cornish earth.
With each inhale, I drew in the life-force of the land, and with each exhale, I released any remaining tension or worry. The smell of the oil merged with the saltiness of the sea, while the waves matched the symphony of the birds in the landscape,
creating a captivating harmony that seemed to resonate so deeply with my soul.
As I surrendered to the healing vibrations of this wonderful oil, I felt a profound sense of peace and a much-needed respite from the wedding whirlwind.
The lady who later did my makeup told me I was the calmest bride she’d ever met!!! The Valor oil had worked its magic.
6. Let Love In with Rose Oil
After breakfast, I headed back to the hotel room to start getting ready with my maid of honour party. It was a fun, laid-back, relaxed morning. Once I was ready to go, just before the girls dashed out the door to the church, I put a drop of Rose oil on my heart chakra, and I did the same for my sister, Joelle.
Joelle is my favourite person in the entire world, and I couldn’t think of a better way to show her that I love her. After all, Rose is the quintessential fragrance of love. It allows our heart energy to flow so we can give and receive love unconditionally.
In that moment, I became incredibly emotional. I suddenly felt ALL of the things – the butterflies in my stomach, the racing heart, the love for everyone who made this day so special. But somehow, I also felt able to hold space for those big feelings. After all, it’s not any of our jobs to control exactly how or when or what we feel. All we need to do is to show up and trust that these emotions are coming in perfect timing.
