Are your teeth ready for some TLC?

7.03.2025

Have you been enjoying our Thieves Range series? In the last 4 bulletins, I’ve focussed on how versatile these products are for cleaning. But did you know we also have Thieves products for dental and personal care?

Gary Young (the founder of Young Living) was a huge advocate for low-tox living. He knew that our exposure to harmful chemicals in our food, air, water and personal care and dental products is one of the significant factors that undermines our health and happiness over time, so he always taught us that, “If you can’t eat it, don’t wear it”.

Even those small amounts of harsh chemicals that make their way into most commercial toothpastes, dental floss and mouthwash are enough to create disruption in our hormones and our health, as the result of long term, regular exposure.

So if you love your life and want great health, going low-tox makes perfect sense.

But it’s not easy to find clean and green dental products that are still highly effective. Many products that promote themselves as being “organic” or healthy still contain these potentially toxic ingredients.

So let me introduce you to Young Living’s dental and personal care range. When it comes to their dental range, your trip to the dentist will quickly become one of the highlights of your day, instead of something to “grin and bear”.  That’s what this post is all about. Enjoy!!!

Why your mouth needs some extra TLC….

Did you know that Scientists at Harvard School of Dental Medicine found 615 different strains of bacteria that can live in your mouth?

This makes your mouth officially the dirtiest place on your body, coming into contact with even more germs and bacteria than your rectum!!!

And you’ve got all that undigested food that gets trapped between your teeth and under your gums if you’re not flossing regularly.

So how much care are you taking of your mouth? Apart from some auto-pilot brushing of your teeth each day, are you really doing as much as you can for this essential part of your body?

If you want to stay healthy in today’s world, the secret is to reduce the levels of acidity and inflammation in your body. But you don’t just need to do this in your overall body….you also need to do this specifically in your mouth. That’s why you want to bring some extra TLC to your mouth, gums and teeth, to ensure that inflammation doesn’t win the game.

Thieves…..it’s a funny name, isn’t it? That’s because it’s based on a powerful and potent essential oil blend from Young Living called “Thieves”. This oil blend was inspired by remarkable stories of four thieves during medieval times, and the “four thieves vinegar” they created. Google “Four Thieves Vinegar” to find out more.

Thieves essential oil blend combines Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata and Rosemary essential oils.

It’s one of those “must have” oils during the winter months, to protect and fortify your body.

I love putting just a few drops under each foot, or 5 to 15 drops in my diffuser, to keep me healthy and vibrant.

It’s sooooooo effective that Young Living has made it the basis for their entire natural cleaning and dental range.

Thieves Whitening Toothpaste – your teeth will love it!!!

Although Young Living has a few different toothpastes (including one for children), my favourite is Thieves Whitening Toothpaste. It naturally polishes and whitens teeth and it tastes delicious thanks to the Orange oil in it.

If you’d like to know more about the Science behind this toothpaste, scroll down to watch a video by the late Dr. Mike Buch. He explains why this toothpaste is so effective at polishing and whitening your teeth, yet it’s so gentle on your enamel.

Thieves Whitening Toothpaste is hands down a winner for me! My teeth are brighter and feel incredibly clean and polished. It ticks all the boxes by using ethically sourced, all-natural ingredients.

Its ingredients are: calcium carbonate, bicarb of soda, coconut oil, lecithin, xanthan gum, glycerin, xylitol and stevia, plus the therapeutic-grade essential oils of Peppermint, Spearmint, Ocotea and Thieves.

This is definitely a product to put on your next Young Living order. Enjoy!

Here’s what our customers have to say….

Maria C. writes:

After using the Thieves Whitening Toothpaste for the very first time, I noticed black tea stains on my teeth were reduced by at least 50%!!! I was blown away! And it tastes great too.

Karen S. writes:

I love how the Thieves Whitening Toothpaste foams in my mouth. It makes my whole mouth feel super fresh and my teeth feel like they have just had a clean and polish at the dentist.

The whitening aspect is amazing too, and I noticed a difference after the first brush! I can’t recommend this product enough.

Alison S. writes:

I am loving the new Thieves Whitening Toothpaste!!! Not only do my teeth feel amazing, they’re so clean and white.

I have extremely sensitive teeth, and it’s the best natural toothpaste I’ve ever used. It whitens my teeth without making them sensitive.

Eva-Lotta B. writes:

I love the flavour of Thieves Whitening Toothpaste and the results…

Even better is that both the kids absolutely love, love LOVE it too!!! Here I thought I was buying it just for myself.

For Kids, we have the KidScents Slique Toothpaste

I began my low-tox and healthy lifestyle when I was in my early 20’s. But I wish I had known about it as a child. It warms my heart to see parents raising their children on healthy, natural products and essential oils, teaching them how to care for their body from such a young age. I know we can say “better late than never”….but what a gift to start early!

Since our little people are much more sensitive in their taste buds, they love having their own specially-formulated toothpaste that tastes scrumptious.

It’s still got Thieves essential oil blend in it for all its fortification benefits, but just in lower concentrations so it’s more suited to a child’s palate. That’s balanced with yummy oils like Grapefruit, Tangerine, Spearmint and Ocotea.

This safe yet effective toothpaste is based on coconut oil, baking soda and calcium carbonate, and sweetened with natural stevia and xylitol. It promotes healthy teeth without the use of fluoride, dyes, synthetic colours, artificial flavours, or preservatives.

But what about an underarm deodorant?

This is a curly one, and I’m about to blow your mind! Thieves Dentarome Plus was our very first Young Living toothpaste. But Young Living has come a long way in developing toothpastes since those early days. The baking soda in Dentarome Plus is not as fine a grade as the baking soda used in subsequent toothpastes, so it’s not as gentle on your teeth. That’s why I love using Thieves Whitening Toothpaste on my teeth……BUT……

Thieves Dentarome Plus toothpaste is hands-down the BEST underarm deodorant paste I’ve ever experienced!!!

Oh, eeewwwwkkkkk, you might say. But once you stop thinking of it as a toothpaste, and start thinking of it as an underarm deodorant paste, you will quickly change your mind. Why is that? Well, there are so many reasons. It’s:

I love Dentarome Plus so much that I ran an “Odour Experiment” in 2021. The experiment was simple. I asked participants to use the Dentarome Plus under one underarm, and Young Living’s regular underarm deodorant under the other underarm. Then they just needed to smell each armpit 24 hours later before showering. For 1 week they continued like this. For the 2nd week, they switched armpits (ie. Dentarome Plus went under the other armpit….just in case they had a natural odour difference between their pits).

I was curious to see if others would love it as much as I did….and guess what? They did!!!! 86% of people participating in The Odour Experiment voted Thieves Dentarome Plus as their favourite underarm deodorant. It’s a definite “Must Try” – you’ll never look back.

Bobbie L. writes: I’m a Senior Citizen who loves Young Living. I live in Far North Queensland where humidity is high right now and I have to say Thieves Dentarome Plus toothpaste is the clear winner as the effective underarm deodorant.

Within two hours of using Cinnafresh deodorant I could smell my armpits, and this is without doing anything physical. However, in using Dentarome Plus I could go until the end of the day and do strength and cardio exercise without any underarm body odour!!!

I enjoy the smell of both products and I know they are perfectly safe to use, especially for my sensitive skin. I love the way I only need a minuscule amount of Dentarome Plus to get the job done. For the Tropics this is a clear winner and the only deodorant that works. Young Living, please keep it on the market!!!

Thieves Mouthwash – a breath of fresh air

Did you know that using a mouthwash can be detrimental to your health?

The Dangers of Alcohol-Based Mouthwash

According to Wikipedia¹, when Listerine was first created in 1879, it was marketed as a floor cleaner, a surgical antiseptic, and a cure for gonorrhea.

Yikes!!! Then in the 1920’s, Listerine began promoting their mouthwash as a cure for bad breath, and in less than 10 years their sales increased almost 8000%.

Today, we have a huge range of commercial mouthwashes to choose from. But the problem with many of these commercial antibacterial mouthwashes is that they are indiscriminate. The alcohol in them kills the good bacteria in our mouth along with the bad, and this in turn weakens our mouth’s

natural immune system and paves the way for an invasion of bad bacteria.

The alcohol also erodes the protective mucous and saliva, allowing plaque to build up more easily, which in turn creates bad breath. It’s a vicious cycle.

Fortunately, the world is waking up. In a study² published in the Australian Dental Journal, scientists conclude that there is now sufficient evidence to accept the proposition that:

“Alcohol-containing mouthwashes contribute to the increased risk of development of oral cancer and…it is inadvisable for oral healthcare professionals to recommend the long-term use of alcohol-containing mouthwashes.” Wow!

Other Toxic Chemicals in Commercial Mouthwash

But alcohol isn’t the only culprit. Commercial mouthwashes also often contain:

  • Acidic stabilizing agents, which weaken tooth enamel and make them more susceptible to decay.
  • Artificial food dyes. Did you know that Green 3 has been linked to bladder cancer, Blue 1 has been connected to cancer in some animal tests, and Yellow 5 is a coal tar derivative? They’re definitely not what you want to be using in your mouth.
  • Peroxide – an alternative to bleach
  • Fluoride – you’ll find heaps of info online about this, and the growing concerns about the use of fluoride in our water, and its effect on fertility, thyroid, brain health, the nervous system and much more.
  • Cetylpyridinium chloride – which is shown in animal studies to be moderately toxic when used orally, and highly toxic when inhaled.
  • Chlorohexidine – which can in rare cases trigger a life-threatening allergic reaction.

Thieves Mouthwash – a truly Healthy Alternative

As with all of their products, Young Living has used a combination of powerful natural ingredients and therapeutic-grade essential oils to create their Thieves “Fresh Essence Plus” Mouthwash.

It contains NO alcohol, artificial flavours, synthetic dyes or sweeteners. Instead, it’s sweetened with stevia, a natural plant extract.

Its first 3 listed ingredients are water, colloidal silver, and Peppermint oil, but it

also contains Spearmint and Vetiver Oil, in addition to the Thieves oil blend.

Colloidal Silver is based on an ancient recipe, and it’s exactly what we need to be using every day in our modern world! If you don’t know what it does, make sure you google it.

Thieves Mouthwash is potent and tastes great. Simply take a capful into your mouth, and rinse and gargle for 30 to 60 seconds. It packs quite a punch! If you find it too strong, simply dilute 50/50 with water. Voila!

You can even use it as an out and about breath freshener. Simply fill a 10-15ml spray bottle with Thieves Mouthwash, and add 1 to 2 drops of Spearmint or Peppermint oil! Voila!

Here’s what our customers have to say….

Jenni C. writes:

My hubby has been using the Thieves Mouthwash and Thieves Whitening Toothpaste for the last year.

His dental hygienist told him the other day that for the first time in years she didn’t need to jimmy away the plaque and gave his teeth and gums a clean bill of health! Of course I told the dentist the great news.

Sandra V. writes:

I always keep Thieves Mouthwash on hand, and at the slightest sign of over-dryness I am there gargling for 5 minutes and holding it in my mouth. My tongue can barely survive in there – it’s pretty intense, however it seems to work like oil pulling and drags all the extra bits and whatever hanging around in the mouth, nasal and back of throat area.

I feel fresh and have the best sleep knowing my body is resting itself and not fighting any unwanted visitors.

And it’s not only fabulous for humans! Fiona M. writes:

Several years ago, “Elmo” was getting tartar build-up on his teeth, and the Vet suggested having his teeth cleaned. Instead, I started applying Young Living’s Thieves Mouthwash inside his mouth using a finger puppet. His treat was a little piece of cheese at the end. At first I heavily diluted the mouthwash with water, and slowly built it up to equal parts mouthwash and water.

It made a big difference in a matter of weeks. At Elmo’s next Vet check, they said his teeth looked great!

I was then just able to say “Teeth cleaning!” and he would run to the bathroom.

Regular Flossing with Thieves Dental Floss

We all know that when food particles get trapped in those tiny gaps between our teeth, they attract bacteria which in turn leads to inflammation of our gums. So we want to floss – just about any dentist would agree with us on this.

But did you know that most commercial dental floss contains petroleum-based dyes, artificial sweeteners, and is coated with Teflon (so it slides between your teeth better)?

Young Living’s dental floss uses bees wax and soy wax, and it’s soaked in Thieves essential oil…so it’s a truly healthy flossing experience.

Thieves Cleansing Bar Soap – your perfect shower buddy

When it comes to a soap that I can use in the shower, the Thieves Cleansing Bar Soap is one of my favourites. It smells uplifting and spicy, lasts such a long time, and is beautiful on the skin. It contains ingredients that nourish and gentle cleanse the skin, including Jojoba seed oil, Wolfberry seed oil, Oat bran and Aloe Vera.

Jenni C. writes: I discovered Thieves Cleansing Bar Soap early in my Young Living journey. I’m usually very cautious with any fragranced soaps as I react to many of them, but this one changed my life (and no reaction)!!! It’s so gentle yet effective.

Becky F. writes: Thieves Cleansing Bar Soap is a great stain remover too! Just lather up on stain, put the item in the wash and the stain is gone! I’ve even successfully removed mulberry and blood from clothes.

Sharon L. writes: The Thieves Cleansing Bar Soap works a treat on stubborn stains on hubby’s golf shirts. I love how versatile the Thieves Range is, and my hands smell amazing afterwards!

If you haven’t already switched to the Thieves Dental and Personal Care range, make sure you give them a try as you run out of your current brand (or jump in the deep end and do a complete “Ditch and Switch”). If you’re based in AU/NZ, Young Living’s Nature’s Home Essentials bundle is an excellent starting point, containing many of the popular Thieves Range products. I am sure you will fall in love them as much as I have!!!
