Skin Care with Rose and Sandalwood oil
23.09.2026
in my recent bulletins, I’ve taken you on the most amazing journey into the world of Rose oil and Sandalwood oil (including both Sacred and Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood).
You’ve learned that it takes approximately 10,000 Damask roses to make a single 5ml bottle of Young Living Rose oil. That’s why Rose oil is one of our most highly prized essential oils.
You’ve also discovered the difference between Sacred Sandalwood and Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood. Out of these two oils, Sacred Sandalwood is the highest in alpha and beta santalol, which has been the shining star in many different scientific research experiments.
Out of our entire Young Living range of oils, which oil do I love the most? It’s impossible to choose, because there’s an oil for every reason and every season. However, my two favourites would have to be both Rose oil and Sacred Sandalwood oil. Both of them carry my senses into ecstasy!
Today, I want to share a recipe containing both of my favourite oils, and more.
You may be aware that one of the many ways we can use essential oils is directly on our skin. Today, I want to introduce you to a beautiful blend of essential oils that I love to use on my skin – one that will help you feel like royalty every time you use it. Combined with our amazing NingXia Red juice, this is the perfect answer to youthful looking skin. NingXia Red nourishes us from the inside out, and this recipe works from the outside in.
And because using essential oils in skin care dates back many thousands of years, I want to share with you this beautiful poem which was composed in Egypt between 1400 and 1200 BC, somewhere around the reign of Akhenaton and Nefertiti. It reads:
She looks like the rising morning star,
At the start of a happy year,
Shining bright, fair of skin,
Lovely the look of her eyes,
Sweet the speech of her lips…
With graceful step she treads the ground,
Captures my heart by her movements,
She causes all men’s necks to turn to see her,
Joy has he whom she embraces,
He is like the first of men!
Below I’ve also shared some of the more emotional and spiritual aspects of the essential oils in my skincare recipe. If you love learning about this aspect of essential oils, as well as plant and animal wisdom and spiritual tips, be sure to also subscribe to The Oil Temple’s “sister blog”, which is Artemis The Heart Whisperer.
Artemis’ “Elixir of Youth” Recipe
This beautiful serum can be made up in the following proportions. Depending on the desired quantity, you can double or even triple the amounts of each oil used.
Naturally, I only use the Young Living brand of oil, because of their absolute purity and perfection:
- 1 drop Rose oil
- 2 drops Vetiver oil
- 2 drops Patchouli oil
- 4 drops Carrot Seed oil
- 4 drops Frankincense oil
- 6 drops Cedarwood oil
- 8 drops Sandalwood oil

Apply a couple of drops of this mixture to your face (neat) each evening before sleep, or mix with a small amount of Rosehip oil as a base, or with your favourite Young Living moisturiser.
Why these oils are magic for skin!!!

Rose
Rose oil has been revered for the skin for thousands of years, and was one of Cleopatra’s favourites. However, where her cosmetics contained actual roses, we have something even better.
A single drop of Young Living Rose oil requires about 100 rose petals to make. That’s a whole lot of love you’re putting into your skincare mix.
Rose oil rejuvenates the skin, helping to restore moisture balance. It does this by helping to inhibit water loss in the skin, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles and scars. It benefits all skin types, including dry, sensitive and mature skin, and it helps to normalise the oiliness of the skin.

Vetiver oil
I love Vetiver oil because it’s an oil of transformation, helping to remove negativity and exhaustion, and replace it with stillness and tranquility.
Vetiver oil has a beautiful rejuvenating effect on the complexion, especially for mature and under-nourished skin.
It’s been prized in skin care because of how deeply it penetrates the skin, providing hydration at the same time as helping to plump up thin and sagging skin.
This is a very thick oil, so you may need to take the stopper out of the bottle in order to get a drop out. Either that, or be very patient.

Patchouli
I absolutely love the rich and musky aroma of Patchouli – it was such a popular aroma in the 60’s and 70’s, so each time I smell it, it makes me feel like a flower child with flared pants and daisies in my hair.
Patchouli oil is renowned as an aphrodisiac, helping us to relax into our body, regaining connection with our luscious sensuality.
In skin care, it acts to rejuvenate the skin. By both toning and tightening sagging skin, it helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Carrot Seed
Carrot Seed oil is steam distilled from the small dry seeds of the wild carrot plant, commonly referred to as “Queen Anne’s lace”. This is the wild form of the domestic carrot, which we love to eat.
It’s an incredibly revitalising essential oil. It helps to rejuvenate our skin by restoring the skin’s elasticity.
By improving skin tone and optimising skin health, it helps us retain that youthful glow in our skin.

Frankincense
The ancient Egyptians loved to use this sacred oil in their rejuvenation face masks. It’s especially useful for dry and sensitive skin, as well as for mature skin.
Frankincense oil helps to balance oily skin, and can be used as a super-nourishing dry skin treatment, especially for aging skin, or skin that’s had a lot of sun exposure in its lifetime.
Frankincense oil reduces the appearance of skin blemishes and helps to smoothe fine lines and wrinkles.

Cedarwood
Cedarwood oil works especially well on the more surface layers of the skin. It’s especially good for oily skin, supporting optimal health in both the skin and the hair.
It’s extremely high in sesquiterpenes, so it provides a beautiful emotionally-balancing experience, helping us to remain strong even in the face of adversity.
In fact, many years ago Gary Young shared how he loved rubbing Rosemary, Clary Sage and Cedarwood oil into his scalp daily – and I always marvelled at what wonderful thick hair he had!

Sacred Sandalwood
This gorgeous oil not only smells divine – it’s also been used in skincare for thousands of years. In Ayurvedic tradition, it was often applied to the skin as a paste, and was viewed as a cooling oil.
Emotionally, Sandalwood oil stimulates creativity, by taking us out of our thoughts, and into the present moment.
Beautiful for any skin type, Sacred Sandalwood oil hydrates and nourishes the skin and smoothes and softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
