The Miracle of Life 9
25.06.2020
When social isolation first hit Australia, I came back from a trip to Sydney and looked at my lawn. The grass tips were green, but the bases were brown. That was odd. Sure, we’d just been through a drought, but we’d just had some rain.
It was only when my gardener came a fortnight later to mow the lawn that I discovered I had an infestation of “army worm”. This worm eats every blade of grass right down to the roots, and it can take many months for the grass to begin to grow back. With all the grass gone from my lawn, weeds and other ground cover then ferociously took over. It’s been about 14 weeks now, and we’re still dealing with the weed overload. Only once that’s under control will we be able to replant more grass seed, and eventually I’ll have a lawn again!
This is the perfect analogy to our gut flora. When we kill off the good guys, the bad guys take over. And getting our gut flora back into balance involves a journey of removing the bad guys, and replanting the good guys.
That’s why I’m THRILLED to announce that TODAY marks the release of Young Living’s Life-9 probiotic in Australia & New Zealand!!!
Most other regions of the world have had this product available for quite a few years now….so it’s all the more exciting to have it now “Down under”.
But do you know why it’s so special? I’m sure you are going to love what I’m about to share with you….it’s a compilation of fascinating information shared by Dr. Olivier Wenker at Young Living’s International Grand Convention 2017, by Marc Schreuder at our International Grand Convention in 2013, and by Gary Young at our 2008 and 2009 Amazon Adventures in Ecuador.
The Miracle of Life 9…
Did you know that if you have imbalances in your gut flora, this will directly affect the neurotransmitters in your brain as well? So a healthy gut doesn’t only mean healthy skin – it also means a healthy mind, and healthy emotions.
In Chinese and Ayurvedic traditions, they say that your gut is your second brain. Modern medicine has only just caught onto this in the last 15 years or so. So we all know that 50% of our DNA comes from our mother, and 50% from our father. This makes us the amazing, unique individual that we are….or does it?
Actually, we all have 99.9% identical DNA. It’s the genetic information in our gut that makes us different from each other.
Microbiome – Myths & Facts
OK, so let’s talk about microbiome. Your microbiome is the combined genetic information of everything that lives on you, and in you, including the amazing “zoo” of beneficial (and harmful) microbes that reside in your gut.
Let’s do the maths. You have 100 trillion bacteria living in and on your body. 10% of your body is human cell, but 90% of your body is actually bacteria, fungi and viral cells. So instead of being 50% mother and 50% father, you are actually 5% mother, 5% father, and 90% information from this plethora of mocrobes that live on you and in you. How crazy is that!
You might think they just keep to themselves like a couple on their honeymoon, but this is far from the case. They impact your body in many large and small ways.
For example, we’ve previously assumed that body shape has been largely influenced by a combination of genetics, diet and exercise. But Scientists have now found that eating a typical western diet conducive to obesity also produces an increase in Firmicutes microbes in the gut. If you lose weight, these microbes also reduce in numbers.
Scientists did some experiments in mice, and found that when faeces high in Firmicutes was given to lean mice, it induced obesity. Dr. Olivier Wenker went on to explain that if you put poop from a thin person into an obese person, they will lose weight. Wow!!!
In fact, we’re having such a negative impact on our own gut flora with our Western lifestyle, that in time we may end up needing to have faecal implants in order to repopulate the diversity of our microbiomes, as a pathway to maintaining health. What an amazing (and somewhat creepy) thought!
90% of your microbiome resides in your gut, and 10% resides on your skin and in other cavities of your body. So be careful what you are putting on your body, and into it. When you use commercial shampoos, soaps, toothpastes, etc., the harmful chemicals present in these are toxic to your microbiome.
When your microbiome is out of balance, this paves the way not only for a plethora of gut conditions, but also for allergies and skin conditions such as eczema.
That’s why Young Living has created a beautiful range of personal care and cleaning products which are free of all known harmful chemicals, and which are plant- and nature-based.
But let’s turn the microscope onto the microbiome of your gut….
Your gut microbes are more than just friends…
Your gut microbes do so many wonderful and health-giving things for your body. They:
- Improve your ability to digest your food, and absorb the health-giving vitamins and minerals from your food
- Keep your intestines healthy – which also directly supports the health of your brain and your skin
- Support your immune system
- Produce vitamins (especially B vitamins)
- Help to break down toxic compounds (including drugs and pharmaceuticals) so your body can eliminate them
- Prevent the bad bacteria from adhering to your gut wall
- Reduce yeast overgrowth
In Ecuador, Gary Young told us, “A lot of allergies as well as candida overgrowth can be from a probiotic deficiency.”
So how does your microbiome get out of balance?
Glyphosate is used all over the world as a popular weed-killer, and it makes its way into the food chain. But glyphosate works as an antibiotic as well. When you eat produce that’s been in contact with glyphosate or with soils treated with it, it will kill some of the bacteria in your gut.
So every single day, unless you are eating home-grown or organic food, you are consuming food that is destroying your genetic information.
But weed killers, herbicides and pesticides are not the only culprits. When you eat genetically modified food, this also affects the genetics in your gut. And so does drinking chlorinated water! Even stress will have a negative impact on your gut microbiome.
And when you take a course of antibiotics, you are affecting a third of your gut microbiome. This has negative effects on the diversity, richness and the evenness of your gut flora.
Antibiotics are definitely something that has saved many lives over the decades – we can’t deny that. But they have also been overused, and the ramifications of that overuse are only just becoming visible to us.
For instance, Scientists have shown that a child treated for 1 week with a course of antibiotics for a simple ear infection has a 4 times higher risk of developing Alzheimers as an adult!!! A lot of these long-term effects from antibiotics come from the impact of antibiotics on our gut flora.
Some healthy strains of gut bacteria fail to recover even 6 months after a course of antibiotics, whereas other strains take years or decades to come back.
Essential Oils and Probiotics
So if weed killers and antibiotics affect gut flora, have you ever wondered whether essential oils affect the microbiome? According to Dr. Olivier Wenker, 7 research studies have found that essential oils support the elimination of bad bacteria, but they don’t destroy the good bacteria.
But what about probiotics? Should we take them to repopulate our microbiome, so we can optimise our health on every level? Absolutely we should! That is why Young Living has created Life 9.
Life 9 – the New Era of Probiotics
Life 9 is a proprietary, high-potency probiotic combining 9 different strains of beneficial bacteria. Each bottle contains 30 capsules, so one bottle is equivalent to a month’s supply.
The advanced, delay-release capsules ensure that Life 9’s 17 billion beneficial active live cultures per capsule will bypass the stomach acid, and deliver directly into your intestines. This ensures you get the maximum efficacy from every capsule. The bottle even has a special cap to ensure product efficacy.
Life 9 contains the following beneficial bacteria:
- Lactobacillus acidophilus
- Bifidobacterium lactis (HN019)
- Lactobacillus plantarum (this is a wonderful bacteria which is very resilient, and is often recommended by health practitioners to be taken both during and after a course of antibiotics)
- Lactobacillus rhamnosus (HN001)
- Lactobacillus salivarius
- Streptococcus thermophilus
- Bifidobacterium breve
- Bifidobacterium bidifum/biflactis
- Bifidobacterium longumIt also contains: Calcium carbonate, Rice bran, Microcrystalline cellulose, Silica, and a capsule comprised of Hypromellose, Gellan Gum.
How and when should I take Life 9?
When I travelled with Gary Young in Ecuador, he always taught us to take it at night on an empty stomach, at least an hour away from food. In those days it was called Life 5, however it’s since been reformulated and enhanced, and renamed Life 9.
The Life 9 formula is even more robust than the original Life 5 formula, and will better withstand shipping to international markets without losing its efficacy.
“Half and hour before your bedtime, take 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Alkalime in 180ml (6oz) of water,” Gary Young said. “Then just as you are going to bed, take your Life 5. Keep your Life 5 in the fridge, and don’t take it at the same time as Inner Defense.”
In 2013, Marc Schreuder said about Life 5…
All 5 of the strains we chose in this original formula are resistant to stomach acid and bile. In fact, the HN001 (Lactobacillus rhamnosus) had the best gut adhesion of 200 strains tested at Massey University. We measured the faecal bacteria, and after 28 days of taking Life 5, we could find significant increases in the HN001, meaning it’s colonising the intestines.
Life 9 contains all the same wonderful bacterial strains as Life 5, and more!
