Unique Father’s Day Gifts: Essential Oils to Celebrate Dad

16.08.2024

Father’s Day is almost upon us in Australia and New Zealand, being the first week in September. My Dad passed away in 2009, but I remember how tricky it always was to find something “just right” for him for Father’s Day. I’d end up resorting to “the usual”, like chocolates (always a favourite of his), or just a lovely hand-written card.

That’s why I’m so excited by these amazing recipes and ideas for Father’s Day. If you want to make your Dad (or the special man in your life) something personal and super-special, here are the tips for doing that. There’s sure to be something “just right” in this list.

DIY Cologne Rollers:

Ameila W. writes: My husband was a bit sceptical about the oils at first. Not now! He uses it all! He wears his lava rock diffuser necklace everyday and even got one for a friend of his!

His favourite products are his cologne rollers – which he keeps in his pockets at all times. He changes them up and loves to ask me how I like them.

One of his old faves is the “Into The Woods” blend:

  • 10 drops Sacred Frankincense
  • 5 drops Cedarwood
  • 3 drops Idaho Grand Fir
  • 1 drop Bergamot

Artemis adds: Add these essential oils into a 2oz/60ml fine mist aromatic spray bottle, then fill the bottle with a Polish Vodka which is usually higher in alcohol (ie. 90 proof Vodka)….and voila! You have your men’s cologne. Avoid using normal Vodka, as the essential oils will float to the surface and won’t mix through. Alternatively, you can put these oils into a 10ml Roller Bottle and fill with Young Living’s V6 oil.

Homemade ‘Man Oil’:

Star S. writes: I just made some more MAN OIL! I love seeing more men ditch the chemical colognes and start using plant based oils like Young Living!

I love using these oils for the men, as they support confidence, courage, abundant consciousness and strength! Woo!!!

Here is my secret recipe (and yes they are black lava beads to absorb the oil and look more masculine,

but sometimes I put in a dark single leaf).

  • 10 drops Shutran for confidence and sexy man-ness
  • 3 drops Abundance for abundant consciousness
  • 2 drops Goldenrod for groundedness
  • 3 drops Valor for courage
  • Fill with fractionated coconut oil!

My NingXia Red Man:

Jenni C. writes: My hubby is a very happy Young Living advocate. He’s a NingXia Red man through and through and adds his favourite oils in there. He loves the supplements that keep his heart in top form and uses the soaps and lotions on his skin, and shampoos and conditioners for his hair. The dental products are his go to. He’s very glad we use the laundry detergent as no more skin irritations.

When I first got on board he raised his eyebrows a bit but trusted my choice of going low tox in the household.

Since then I have to check in with him each month to see what he’s running low on. He gets a little grumpy if we run out of his faves!

No More Stress:

Anita K. writes: My husband Uli loooooves Stress Away. My favourite memory goes like this:

We spent 2 week in an Ayurveda Resort in the south of India and 3 girls of the Ayurveda team brought the herbal remedies to our room every night. The second night they complained about how stressed they were and so Uli asked them to line up before him, went to get our Stress Away roll on and asked them to strech out their hands in front of them.

Quickly he applied Stress Away on their wrists, asked them to rub the oil in and then inhale the scent deeply.

Ahhhhh! What a relief for the girls! This became the evening ritual for the remaining 12 days we spent at the Ayurveda resort. Since that day every time someone complains about stress, Uli goes and fetches my Stress Away roll-on for them to rub the oil in and inhale the scent deeply!

My Oily Favourites:

Scott B. writes: Here’s just some of the goodies I flip & flop between as an oily man and how/where I use them…

Shutran, Egyptian Gold, Valor, Melrose & Sacred Mountain. A drop or two on the chest for people to find me, they follow their nose! I also use Egyptian Gold with Rose Ointment as a nose swipe before boarding a plane or when in for some close time with strangers. Melrose is a regular on my feet after showering at work or gym. I’ll even use a drop of Joy if I’m feeling a bit <meh> and need an oily smile.

En-R-Gee. A couple of drops in the palms and reach around to apply over the kidneys before heading to the gym.

Frankincense, Sacred Frankincense, Idaho Blue Spruce, Vetiver, Idaho Balsam/Grand Fir. Straight up on the chest or back of neck before heading out for the day. Vetiver doesn’t get its fair run as I’m usually not patient enough. (Artemis adds: Vetiver is the one oil where I take the stopper out of the bottle, and apply some to my finger. Otherwise it’s too thick to come out.)

Ylang Ylang & Lavender. A drop or two of each on the chest & shoulders at bedtime is a fave of mine. I do love me some Ylang Ylang!

The Coconut Lime Replenishing Body Butter is a great feel on the arms & legs when they’re feeling (or looking!) a bit on the dry side. I love this after a long shower on the weekend.

The plastic spray bottle (on the right in the pic above) has the result of soaking empty Young Living bottles in vodka for a few days (or weeks!) then straining through a coffee filter paper. I’ve been known to use this as a deodorant which works well for me!

The fave of all time and one I often get comments from is in the black spray bottle (left in the pic above). It’s a blend from the Little Black Book – no idea which one it is as I didn’t want to write on the bottle so I’ll just have to pick another when it runs out. The book is great if anyone wants to make some of the blokey concoctions for their fellas, or to make yourself guys!

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying this selection changes often – these were largely what was on the ensuite bench today, just a few additions like the book & a couple of bottles which were on the kitchen bench. Anyone that has ever been to visit knows there’s usually an oil or three on the bench, table & anywhere else I’ve been.

Oh. One last mention, but not pictured. Australian Kuranya is my absolute favourite to diffuse in the office.

Great for All Ages:

Sue P. writes: Both my son AND husband use the oils and products.

My son literally doesn’t leave the house without Digize, Peppermint and Deep Relief. His skin has also cleared up soooo much since starting the Balance Skin range. He comes up with the weirdest combos to put in his diffuser each night, it often makes me laugh.

And is it cheeky to say that my husband is much nicer when he is using the Shutran oil!!?

My Secret Wellness Blend:

Matt. P writes: These are a couple of my favorite daily oils and recipes. As soon as I wake up, I put a blend of Awaken and Idaho Blue Spruce on my chest, as well as the “Wellness Blend” on my spine, followed by EN-R-GEE on my adrenals.

The “Wellness Blend” is from The Oil and Glass book:

  • 6 drops Purification
  • 15 drops Thieves
  • 8 drops Frankincense
  • 5 drops Lemon
  • 5 drops Oregano
  • Organic fractioned coconut oil or carrier oil of your choice

I also use Peppermint throughout the day which helps keep me going and feeling healthy (NingXia Red and Sulfurzyme also play a big part in that).

And my cologne mix of choice is Shutran and Northern Lights Black Spruce!

Breathe Easy:

Lucy L. writes: My beautiful Jarrod is as enthusiastic about his oil application as I am! When I first introduced him to the idea of wearing (aka “smothering himself in”) essential oils in place of his aftershave, he was pretty keen to learn more!

He has his own routine that I simply LOVE to watch as he chooses each day what he wants to smell like, but always with a foundation of RC as he loves how easy it is to breathe in, and it supports him beautifully. His ‘side’ of our bathroom bench is as crammed with oils as mine.

which we use the empty Thieves handwash dispenser for, he chose Motivation for that one!

A drop of Goodness:

Sarah L. writes: My husband Roberto uses Panaway and Orthosport regulary for sore achy muscles.

But his fave is to take a drop of Ocotea in his Ningxia Red every morning. Ocotea is extracted from the stem and leaves of the Ocotea quixos tree in Ecuador and has natural cleansing and purifying properties. It has a warm, spicy scent, much milder than Cinnamon, but can be used in cooking in similar ways. He also loves Cinnamon oil.

In addition he also loves Sulfurzyme and takes this amazing supplement daily. And as a dedicated Italian he loves the Olive Essential Oil supplement. So happy to have a man that appreciates essential oils and all their values. Took a while but the eagle has finally landed, LOL!

Our take on Ralph Lauren:

Fiona M. writes:Just to set the scene, my hubby Dave is an engineer so he was very sceptical towards the essential oils in the beginning. And NOW he will ask me: “What have you got for this or that?”. So here is the story.

A couple of months ago I was hosting a DIY Perfume & Champers Workshop at my home for a group of ladies, and my hubby Dave decided to join in with us.

I had previously created some trial perfumes for the workshop and I thought to create Dave his own special cologne.

The recipes come from Jen Gallagher’s perfume e-recipe book. Dave absolutely loved the Ralph Lauren Polo cologne I created for him!

So I decided to ask if Dave wanted to join us this time to create his own signature cologne, and despite being the only man, it was resounding YES!

The ladies created a 15ml spray and 10ml roll-on perfume and Dave just created his own cologne.

I have to say Dave supports and loves the oils but has never attended a class of mine, and I have never expected him to. So this made me SO happy. He said to me afterwards: “That was so very interesting, and you did an amazing presentation!”. He has since made another bottle of the cologne he crafted as he loves it so much.

My ‘Happy Muscles’ Blend:

Silvina B. writes: This pic is of my husband, Alex, sharing at the Oils Club the importance of using our incredible essential oils and blends to support not only our bodies, but also our emotions.

At 59 years young Alex still trains during the week & plays soccer each Sunday. His favourite blend is his own creation – the “Happy Muscles Blend”.

The “Happy Muscles Blend” contains:

  • 10 drops each of: Lemongrass and Wintergreen oil
  • 5 drops each of Rosemary and Geranium oil
  • Add into a 10ml roller bottle, and fill with Organic Liquid Coconut MCT Oil (available from major supermarket chains like Coles or Woolworths). Artemis adds: You could alternatively use Young Living’s V6 oil.

A little Motivation:

Marianne W. writes: I am very lucky to have an open minded hubby who believes I won’t put him wrong when looking after his health and wellness.

He used to love the Shutran aftershave that has now been removed sadly, so he uses the Shutran essential oil every day instead.

He also diffuses a different oil in his bathroom every day until that bottle is empty and then gets whatever I pick out for him, this morning was a replenish day so he got Eucalyptus Globulus and handwash which we use the empty Thieves handwash dispenser for, he chose Motivation for that one!
